michael hosting tuesday talks
Influenced by social-distancing and staying at home due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Michael decided to connect with friends and social media followers by hosting an Instagram Live "tour" of his make-shift, dining room studio on April 20th. Michael enjoyed it greatly and his large audience craved more. Taking a cue from the many galleries and museums who have been conducting live conversations with artists and curators, Michael decided to host one himself and Tuesday Talks was born.
Every week you'll find Michael in conversation with a different friend from the art world and creative community. Youre invited to tune in every Tuesday on Michael's Instagram feed, (@theflowerguy) at 2:00 pm (EST) and have the opportunity to ask questions of him and his guests at the end of the discussion.
Michael's next guest (May 19th) will be London-based artist, Unskilled Worker (@unskilledworker). This self-taught artist works under the moniker of Unskilled Worker and rose to prominence via her hugely successful Instagram account. Drawing upon a broad spectrum of influences, her evocative work has an intimate quality that draws the viewer into a highly atmospheric world of childlike innocence, suggestive of darker times.
Sharing her work online, she was discovered by the celebrated photographer Nick Knight, who commissioned her in 2014 to create a series of portraits. Knight described the artist’s work as “some of the most intensively beautiful and poetic painting I have come across.” Her collaborations with Knight attracted a great deal of interest, and in 2015 the artist was commissioned by the Italian fashion house Gucci to make a series of portraits for exhibition at the Minsheng Art Museum in Shanghai.
