Last Days Gallery is pleased to present The Dream Keepers, an exhibition of recent paintings from New York-based artists Alberto Casais and Liz Weiss.
The two artists depict a range of seemingly disparate subjects, from battered and worn New York City storefronts and charming street scapes, to nature-inspired surrealistic scenes populated with figures, cats, unicorns, and flowers. Text appears in some of the paintings of both artists: In the fading signage of Casais’ lovingly depicted facades and Weiss’ graffiti-like layered and textured words created with phrase stencils sourced from craft shops. The intimate scale of the works heightens their tenderness. Both artists offer a meditation on what remains, what changes, and what is carried forward.
Alberto Casais was born in Yonkers, NY in 1970. He has had solo exhibitions at the Key Club, New York, NY; Fortnight Institute, New York, NY; Kantor Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Boreal Throne, Seattle, Washington; Ainori Gallery, Lisbon, Portugal; and Post Gallery, Zurich, Switzerland. Alberto also had a two-person exhibition at Turn Gallery, New York, and participated in group exhibitions at Andrew Edlin Gallery, New York, NY; Harpers, East Hampton; artBangall, Bangall, NY; Condo, Mexico City, and others. Alberto’s work was twice featured in The New York Times. His studio is in East Harlem.
Liz Weiss was born in Englewood, NJ in 1961. Her work has been included in exhibitions at Berry Campbell, New York, NY; O’Flaherty’s, New York, NY; September Gallery, Kinderhook, NY; Garner Art Center, Garnerville, NY; and others. In 2021, Weiss curated Here There and Everywhere at Foley Gallery, New York, NY. Her studio is in the South Bronx.
Founded by artist Michael De Feo in January 2025, Last Days Gallery was previously located in his former Upper East Side painting studio. Last Days Gallery now mounts exhibitions and projects nomadically.
