RIP East 23rd Street flower mural. A bloom that lasted decades.
By far, the longest blooming mural of Michael's is now gone. De Feo painted this 12-foot tall flower without permission in the summer of 1994. At the time, his flower street art project wasn't yet one-year old. It was his very first large-scale mural and has remained a part of that neighborhood for almost 32 years - until now.
Please visit Michael's Instagram: @theflowerguy which features a photo of Michael painting the mural in the summer of 1994, the flower project's first printed media attention in a local newspaper, as well as his written reflections on this loss.
